Two development projects launched

Kabul: The National Solidarity Programme (NSP), a project of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD), launched the first-ever water supply project in Khak-i-Jabar district of capital of on Tuesday.

Director of NSP sub-office Shamsullah told Pajhwok Afghan News the project costing 200,000 afghanis would be executed in two months.

Expected to provide employment opportunities to 450 people and irrigate 250 acres of land, the scheme is being implemented with support from ActionAid.

Meanwhile, the construction of a five-kilometre road got under way in Lashkargah - capital of the restive southern province of Helmand, also called Afghanistans drug capital.

Governor Asadullah Wafa told this news agency the road plan would cost 2.4 million afghanis. The municipality is funding the project that would be completed in a month, Wafa added.

A 5.5 kilometre road, linking the districts of Jabalus Saraj and Gulbahar in the central Parwan province, was also inaugurated on Tuesday. The USAID-assisted plan would be completed in six months at the cost of 1.5 million dollars.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Jabalus Saraj district chief Aqa Shireen Nadeem said the road linked Parwan with the neighboring Kapisa and Panjshir provinces.
